Fringe entries open Monday

The Sydney Fringe opens the floodgates on Monday for submissions to this year’s second annual festival.

The Sydney Fringe opens the floodgates on Monday for submissions to this year’s second annual festival.

In 2010 the Fringe received in excess of 350 submissions across the range of the performing, digital and visual arts. And it is expecting an even greater avalanche of submissions in 2011.

“If you have an idea, the Fringe wants to hear about it,” said incoming Festival Director Richard Hull.

“Existing shows or brand new works… whatever they are and however they are – off the wall, off the kerb, off kilter, underground, overground, alternative, contemporary, mainstream, slipstream, risky or frisky. Anything that entertains and will make Sydney sit up and pay attention.  Now is the time to make your pitch.

“This event is unique on the Sydney cultural calendar and provides a rare platform for established and emerging artists to unleash their talent and imagination on the world. We want to induce a maelstrom of creativity.”

The debut of the Sydney Fringe – based in the Inner West, the most concentrated entertainment precinct in Australia – was an extraordinary success by any measure.

More than 3000 artists featured in 256 works over a 3 week period that showcased work across every imaginable discipline and genre. Audiences topped 100,000 and – with food and drink purchases – contributed an estimated $10m economic boost to the vibrant district.

Submission Details:
Fringe Submission fee is $25.  Submissions close on April 30.
