First ever Sleepover at Arts Centre Melbourne!

On Saturday 22 August, children and their families will have the opportunity to explore dressing rooms, under the stage and through mazes of corridors at Arts Centre Melbourne as part of the first ever ‘Sleepover’ at the iconic Victorian venue.

The Sleepover – Thanks to Arena Theatre Company

Kids aged 8-11 have been invited to explore parts of the theatre complex that nobody sees in a night full of adventure by the award-winning Arena Theatre Company, culminating in a special sleepover on the Playhouse stage.

Arena Theatre Company have been making acclaimed and inspiring theatre for young people for 50 years and this unique event (which quickly sold out) will make the 60 young participants the stars of the show as they embark on a wild, theatrical adventure.

Performance, games, activities and an exclusive insight into the backstage world of making theatre will be given to these youngsters by a brilliant team of artists including Artistic Director Christian Leavesley, Associate Artist Jolyon James along with Ben Grant, Phil McInness, Clare Watson, Emily Barrie, Sophie Ross and Penelope Bartleau.

“We’ve excavated the amazing warren of passageways and rooms that make up the Playhouse, and we’re funnelling all of that history and imaginative potency to create a night that I honestly think will define Arts Centre Melbourne for the participants for the rest of their lives,” Director Christian Leavesley said.

What a fabulous experience for all kids – not just those already exposed to the world of theatre. Here’s hoping Arena Theatre Company present more Sleepover opportunities in the future!
