Fame to Open in April

Fame is back.

It will return to Australia in a national tour beginning at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre on April 18 next year. It will open in Brisbane at the Lyric Theatre QPAC on June 20 and in Sydney in early September.

Produced by John Frost and Directed and Choreographed by Kelley Abbey, Fame is the story of the kids from New York’s School for the Performing Arts who inspired a generation and sparked sales of untold millions of legwarmers.

Fame is, almost uniquely, a classic of cinema, television and music theatre. The movie, released in 1980, won an Academy Award and swept the world. The TV show ran for six seasons, won numerous Emmy Awards and was broadcast in over 70 countries. And the musical ran for a decade on the West End and has been seen by 10 million people worldwide.

John Frost believes the time is right for his new production.

“This is a show with wonderful songs and sensational dancing,” he said.

“We will be looking for 30 young and dynamic dancers/singers of all cultural backgrounds. And we expect to see hundreds at the auditions, most of them in leg warmers and leotards.

“The auditions mirror the theme of Fame, that young people can break through in the entertainment world and become what they want – if they work at it.”

Auditions are being held across the country from next month.
