On Monday 17 August, over 80 members of the Australian musical theatre community will take to the stage to perform songs originally penned for the opposite gender in a one-off night of show-stopping, gender-bending entertainment. Audiences will be entertained by performers from Australia’s hit musical productions, including Anything Goes, Blood Brothers, Cats, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Strictly Ballroom, The Lion King, The Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story and many more.

The show will bring South Pacific co-stars Kate Ceberano and Eddie Perfect back together as hosts for the evening and will also feature music theatre favourites Rob Mills, Lucy Maunder, Michael Cormick, Queenie van de Zandt, Blake Bowden and Josh Piterman and more.

“Music has the incredible ability to bring people together,” said 2015 co-host Kate Ceberano. “Powerful songs, melodies and lyrics can resonate deeply and highlight our shared experiences – both good and bad.

“Twisted Broadway is a marvellous example of our community coming together through music to support – and celebrate – those of us in need.”

Modelled on the success of New York’s Broadway Backwards, Twisted Broadway has become a sell-out stalwart of Australia’s music theatre calendar. For the last 6 years, Twisted Broadway has been raising money for Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and to date, has donated over $80,000 to the organisation. Staged on the set of The Production Company’s next work – Nice Work If You Can Get It – this year’s Twisted Broadway team will edge ever closer to the $100,000 mark, and producer Kate Macdonald is humbled by the continued support from all aspects of the arts community.

“Each year, the number of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses is increasing,” said Kate Macdonald, Twisted Broadway producer. “We have come a long way through education and awareness, but this disease is an important and very real issue for thousands of Australians today.”

Twisted Broadway is a small beacon of support for those affected by this disease. I am humbled by the passion of both audiences and performers alike for such a significant and monumental cause.”

So, if you are keen on hearing Heathers star Jaz Flowers bring the house down with ‘Heaven on Their Minds’ (Jesus Christ Superstar), or witnessing Tom Sharah channel his inner Fanny Brice with ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’, or seeing Melissa Langton charm your pants off with ‘All I Care About’ from Chicago, then this is the concert for you!

Tickets are now on sale and will run out the door! Book now at artscentremelbourne.com.au or phone 1300 182 183
