Every Single Saturday: New Australian Musical bound for Sydney

Katrina Retallick and Scott Irwin are set to star in a new Australian musical about Saturday morning football. 

 In 2009, Every Single Saturday was a well received 10-minute musical at the Short Sweet+Song festival. In 2010, the show was workshopped and extended, playing a short yet successful season at NIDA.  Now, after further tweaking, the production is a full length musical and is opening at the Glen Street Theatre in February, 2012.  Starring Katrina Retallick (South Pacific, A Little Night Music), Scott Irwin (Hairspray) Chris Horsey (Bootmen) and Maria De Marco (Caba-MA-ret), Every Single Saturday is the hilarious and moving new Australian musical about four parents whose only common ground is the football field where their kids play on Saturdays. Writer and composer Joanna Weinberg (12 Shoes, The Unbearable Lightness of Fleeing, Sinksongs) has created four football parents with four very different agendas. There’s Neil, an aloof orchestra conductor, unaccustomed to the pressures of being a father to his estranged son; Sandy, a hard-driven working class fitness freak trying to avoid her struggles at home; Liz, a well-educated North Shore mum trying to rebuild her life as a single parent; and the team’s coach, Carlo, an Italian soccer dad reliving his days as a former sports hero.  Featuring more than a dozen original songs, dazzling dancing, plenty of laughs and a few tears, this heart-warming, inspiring and romantic new Australian musical comedy celebrates the pain and the passion – the oranges and the lemons – of being a parent on the sidelines.
