The Adelaide Cabaret Festival have named stars Ali McGregor and Eddie Perfect as co-artistic directors of the biggest cabaret festival in the world.
Perfect and McGregor, both of whom performed in this year’s festival, helmed by Barry Humphries, will take over the reins for 2016-2017 after Humphries’ one year stint as Artistic Director.
The news was confirmed last night with Humphries handing over the baton to Perfect and McGregor at the closing night of the festival.
In an interview with the Adelaide Advertiser, Perfect revealed that the pair had “slightly different focuses but really similar tastes”, with McGregor interested in exploring new cabaret avenues and Perfect keen on new music and new writing.
Composer and performer Eddie Perfect, who starred as Luther Billis in Opera Australia’s South Pacific was recently added to ABC’s Playschool team and was a series regular on Channel 10’s Offspring. His musical Shane Warne – The Musical played at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2013.
Comedienne and cabaret star Ali McGregor has been billed as “the Opera Australia soprano who ran away with the circus”. Her highly successful cabarets Ali McGregor’s Alchemy and Ali McGregor’s Jazzamatazz have earned her an ARIA award in 2014 a Green Room Award for her contribution to cabaret.
