It was confirmed today that the full current cast of CATS – including pop sensation Delta Goodrem – will travel with the show to Brisbane for its season at Lyric Theatre, QPAC in 2016.
Goodrem, who recently completed her first season with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed musical at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre, will take to the QPAC stage as Grizabella The Glamour Cat and perform ‘Memory’, one of the most well-known songs of all time.
“I am so excited to be making my musical theatre debut in Brisbane as Grizabella in CATS, one of the most iconic roles created by Andrew Lloyd Webber”, Goodrem said.
“Andrew Lloyd Webber’s work is extraordinary and his music speaks to people all around the world. I am so honoured to have the opportunity to share Andrew’s music and Grizabella with a whole new generation of Australian audiences and to join the CATS legacy.”
This new London Palladium revival production of CATS –which was reworked by the original creative team – Director Trevor Nunn, Associate Director and Choreographer Gillian Lynne, Designer John Napier and Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber – commences its Brisbane run on 29 January 2016 following upcoming seasons in Hobart and Melbourne. One of the longest running shows in West End and Broadway history, CATS was first performed in 1981 and ran 21 years in London and 18 years on Broadway. By the time the show hits QPAC – 35 years after its debut – CATS will have been seen be over 73 million people worldwide, played in 30 countries and translated into 15 languages.
Delta Goodrem has now joined an impressive list of Australian and international stars who have played the coveted role of Grizabella – the cat who has fallen from grace – including Debra Byrne, Silvie Palladino, Kerry Ellis (Wicked), and Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls.
It has not yet been confirmed who will play the role of Grizabella for the Adelaide and Perth seasons later in 2016. For more information, and for a full Australian cast list, visit www.catsthemusical.com/australia
