Cousens to star in The Paris Letter for Mardi Gras 2012

Darlinhurst Theatre Company will host the Australian Premiere of The Paris Letter, a gripping play penned by Jon Robin Baitz, creator and producer of hit TV show Brothers and Sisters, for the 2012 Mardi Gras Festival.

Starring Peter Cousens, Susie Lindeman and Nicholas Papademetriou alongside two rising stars, Caleb Alloway and Damian Sommerlad, The Paris Letter will take audiences on a journey in time and explore attitudes to sexuality in a thrilling tale of trust, friendship and betrayal from 24 February.

Director, Stephen Colyer (No Way to Treat a Lady, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Hello Again) says, “I am delighted to be directing the Australian premiere of such a beautifully crafted play, a gripping thriller and a modern day classic.”

Opening with a bang, literally, The Paris Letter traces the changing attitudes to sexuality over time, from New York in the sixties to present day Paris.

Two men’s lives are interwoven in this complex and lethal affair between a young male associate and powerful businessman Sandy Sonenberg. After facing a lifetime of buried desires, Sandy’s life thrown into turmoil and his affair threatens to destroy all he has fought to build.

Jon Robin Baitz, award-winning author of the play and later film, The Substance of Fire and current Broadway triumph, Other Desert Cities is recognised as one of America’s foremost contemporary playwrights.
