COME FROM AWAY Canberra season to be postponed to June 2023

Producers Rodney Rigby and Junkyard Dog today announced that the Canberra season of the awardwinning musical COME FROM AWAY, will be postponed due to the ongoing uncertainty and fast moving number of Omicron COVID cases.

Originally playing from Thursday 3 February 2022, the Canberra season will now open in June 2023.

Producer Rodney Rigby:

It is incredibly disappointing to postpone the Canberra Season of COME FROM AWAY. Sadly, the effects of the Omicron COVID variant are causing havoc in the live entertainment industry, with all major musicals across Australia suffering considerable disruptions in recent weeks. Canberrans deserve to witness this remarkable production, free from the distractions of COVID, and we apologise to the many ticket holders inconvenienced by the postponement.

Existing ticket holders to the Canberra season will be contacted in the coming weeks. COME FROM AWAY will place its current Australian tour on hiatus after the final performance in Sydney on Sunday 30 January, 2022. The national tour will recommence in July 2022, with national tour dates to be announced soon.

COME FROM AWAY, at its core, is a story of kindness and humanity and as we navigate this situation together, we are reminded of the importance of community and extending a helping hand to others during this difficult time.

COME FROM AWAY is based on the incredible real-life events in the wake of the September 11 tragedy. Set in Gander, Newfoundland where 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 people from over 100 countries were redirected during this traumatic event, almost doubling the population of the remote Canadian town.

Capturing the generosity and hospitality of the small community of Gander who invited the “come from aways” into their homes, it is an inspirational story of hope and humanity.

COME FROM AWAY is directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley (Diana, Memphis), choreographed by Olivier Award Winner Kelly Devine (Diana, Rock of Ages, Rocky), with music supervision by Ian Eisendrath (A Christmas Story, Diana), scenic design by Beowulf Boritt (Act One, Rock of Ages, Be More Chill), costume design by Toni-Leslie James (Jelly’s Last Jam), lighting design by Howell Binkley (Jersey Boys, Hamilton), and sound design by Gareth Owen (Diana, A Bronx Tale).
