Fresh from 27 sold-out shows at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe – including an added performance at the iconic 1,000-seat McEwan Hall – the brilliantly absurd Garry Starr (alter ego of award-winning performer Damien Warren-Smith) brings his hit show Classic Penguins to Sydney’s Grand Electric from 3 September to 12 October.
This critically acclaimed show lands with a swag of awards, including:
Yes, it’s literary chaos, delivered mostly naked (except for a pair of flippers), fuelled by Starr’s signature blend of theatrical madness, fearless parody and jaw-dropping audience participation. With his trademark blend of chaos, clowning and genius, Garry Starr presides over a blissful hour of unbridled theatrical anarchy.
Critics have hailed it as one of the most unmissable shows of the decade. The review in The Stage declared:
One of the Fringe shows of the decade. joyously, jaw-droppingly fun, marshalled by Starr with a well-judged mix of transgressive glee and practical care. It’s victory lap at the year’s festival confirms it as one of the fringe shows of the decade.
Garry Starr himself adds:
I ’m so excited to be back in Sydney with this super-charged version of Classic Penguins following a massive London and Edinburgh season! This will be the longest run we’ve ever done in the one venue and I cannot wait to work with the Grand Electric team to make it sillier and more outrageous than ever before.
STRICTLY 18+
Please note: Classic Penguins contains full nudity, and audience participationmay be invited at the discretion of the performer.
