Civic Cabaret Comeback

Rhonda Burchmore
Sophisticated cabaret returns to Sydney with the launch of Civic Cabaret at the Civic Hotel in October, playing on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. For the first time since the demise of the much-loved Tilbury Hotel, Sydneysiders will have the chance to experience fine dining and top class performers in Sydney’s finest cabaret setting. This relaxed and intimate cabaret venue has been created in the redesigned and refurbished restaurant of the Civic Hotel.

The first season of Civic Cabaret includes three of Australia’s most prestigious performers, Rhonda Burchmore with the Sydney premiere of her new show Red Hot And Saucy, a tribute to the saucy and blue entertainers; Australia’s first lady of jazz Grace Knight in her latest showSophisticated Lady; and much loved musical star Tom Burlinson with Simply Sinatra.

The fabulous and unstoppable Rhonda Burchmore has wowed audiences on musical and cabaret stages around the world. Her expansive theatre career includes leading roles in Mamma Mia, Mame, Hot Show Shuffle and Annie Get Your Gun as well as starring in Sugar Babies on London’s West End. Rhonda’s dazzling dance steps, superb comic timing, effervescent personality and her stunning voice have made her appealing and irresistible to audiences everywhere.

Grace Knight shot to fame in the 1980’s with her wildly successful, chart topping pop band Eurogliders. Since then, she has traversed musical styles and gained a reputation as one Australia’s most respected and well loved jazz and blues singers, and recorded the very successful soundtrack to the ABC TV mini-series Come In Spinner. Grace’s sensual, sultry and soulful voice mesmerises audiences and leaves them begging for more.

Tom Burlinson’s hugely successful entertainment career has spanned over 30 years and includes television, film and theatre credits. Tom’s lead role in The Man from Snowy River launched his career in 1981 and earned him international fame. Most recently Tom starred in the Australian production of the Mel Brooks musical The Producers. His Frank Sinatra tribute has been seen by audiences all over Australia and his charisma and charm are highly acclaimed. This is the first time Tom has performed his Frank Sinatra Show in such an intimate cabaret setting.

The producer of Civic Cabaret, Trevor Ashley, said: “This will fill a large gap in Sydney’s live entertainment scene. For years this city has been missing a classy and intimate fine dining and cabaret venue. With Chef Peter Conistos’ world class menu, the calibre of the performers and the sensual and seductive surroundings of the venue, audiences are guaranteed an evening of pure bliss, up close and personal with Australia’s top artists.”
