Cats set to wow Sydney’s South

A superb local production of Cats is set to wow Sydney’s South when it leaps into the Sutherland Entertainment Centre in March.

A superb local production of Cats is set to wow Sydney’s South when it leaps into the Sutherland Entertainment Centre in March.

The blockbuster, with a huge and talented all-singing all-dancing cast, is Miranda Musical Society’s brilliant follow-up to last year’s hit Les Miserables.

Cats is arguably the best-known and best-loved musical the world has ever known, and holds the record for the longest-running musical in West
End history (21 years).

Cats is – quite simply – a phenomenon. With a plot based on T.S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and a magnificent musical score by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber – and boasting show-stoppers like ‘Memory’ – Cats is a brilliant song and dance spectacular not to be missed.

In the director’s seat is experienced performer Gavin Leahy who is also taking one of the lead roles, Munkustrap.

Leahy says the number one challenge is “keeping it modern”.

“We have the gift of a wonderfully imaginative set (designed by Bob Peet), inspiring choreography (Simone Salle) plus stunning hand-painted costumes. And, under the able baton of musical director Kate Wheatley, this talented cast deliver the songs so beautifully that they literally give you goosebumps.”

The show opens on March 9.
