The full cast for Twisted Broadway Melbourne 2013 has been confirmed! This year’s gender-bended, musical theatre fundraising extravaganza is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.

A massive 61 professional performers have been named in the cast list along with 17 stars of the future from VCA’s Music Theatre course making this the most exciting Twisted Broadway to date.

Headlined by previously announced hosts Trevor Ashley and Erika Heynatz, other performers include Matthew Robinson, Bert LaBonte, Rob Guest Endowment Winner Danielle Matthews, members of the cast of Wicked including Jemma Rix and Ed Grey, countless King Kong cast members and four young performers from Mary Poppins and Love Never Dies.

Musical Director Vicky Jacobs is thrilled with the 78-strong cast, all of whom are giving up their time to support Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in a one night only concert at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Playhouse Theatre on Monday July 22. With just five days until curtain up, Jacobs (who recently finished a four year stint as Jersey Boys’ assistant musical director and is due to have a baby in November) is “knee deep in charts” but loving every minute.

“It’s going to be a great night”, said Jacobs. “There is a lot of group stuff because it’s so dynamic and fun, but we’ve got some really great soloists too – Bert La Bonte’s solo is going to be brilliant. I’m also very excited about our opening number starring Trevor Ashley. I think it’s hilarious”, she said.

Other numbers include four boys from Mary Poppins/Love Never Dies performing a number from Matilda (“it’s super super cute”) and the VCA first years in a spectacular group number (“they are AMAZING”).

TwistedBroadway_sliderAs a fundraising concert, Twisted Broadway’s point of difference is in the word ‘twisted’. Backed this year by a four piece band, all performers must sing a song that was originally written for the opposite gender – an idea which originated in New York city at a sister fundraiser called Broadway Backwards. Twisted Broadway’s Producer Daniel Benge is thrilled with the support the event has received over the last few years, and the growth it has enjoyed in its short life thus far.

“Our 2013 cast welcomes new performers to the Twisted Broadway stage, as well as those who so generously join us to share in the night annually” said Benge.

“In our fourth year, the Twisted Broadway community continues to grow with Australia’s top music theatre talent.”

Twisted Broadway proudly supports Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. On average, 20 people are diagnosed with HIV every week in Australia and over 50 per cent of those living with HIV/AIDS live under the poverty line. Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS demonstrates the Australian entertainment industry’s dedication to those living with and those touched by HIV/AIDS.

  • So gutted not to be in Melbourne to see this. What a fabulous cast! It’s Trevor Ashley’s year and he will once again be completely fabulous. You have to check out this Trevor Ashley written piece from a few years ago which still slams the audience every time – The Leading Men’s ‘Woman’s medley’
