How would you like to be seduced by the most well know gypsy the world has ever known? AussieTheatre.com have 4 double passes to giveaway for Melbourne Opera’s production of Carmen on Friday 11 November, 2011. Simply fill in the form below for your chance to win!  Carmen leaves men panting for more. Foresworn to “freedom,” she can be embraced, but never possessed. Her fate lies inextricably in the cards.   Melbourne Opera dedicates itself to bringing high quality, accessible opera to audiences of all ages and backgrounds and this October, the company will bring Bizet’s famous gypsy to life in their latest production of Carmen. This production be performed in English, however Carmen was first performed in French in 1875.  Over 90 Victorian performers have been assembled by Melbourne Opera for this production, creating an opera bursting with energy and packed full of great tunes including the ‘Toreador Song’, ‘Habanera’, ‘Seguidilla’ and ‘Flower song’.   Part of its appeal is its salacious story, initially denounced by critics as immoral, its vivid range of characters from Carmen the passionate gypsy, to Escamillo, the heroic bullfighter and Bizet’s evocative music. An unforgettable tragedy of shocking and risqué morality, set to a fiery, colourful score infused with the pulsing sensuality of gypsy and Spanish influenced melodies, Carmen is certainly an opera for the people.
Directed by Hugh Halliday, this production at the Athenaeum promises to be lively, animated and energetic with thrilling performances from Dimity Shepherd (and Tania Ferris) as Carmen, joined by the magnificent dramatic tenor Jason Wasley (and David Rogers-Smith) as her doomed lover Don Jose. Simon Meadows and Phillip Calcagno will alternate as the glamorous Toreador.    Melbourne Opera will tour Carmen in 2012 to Tasmania, Victoria and the ACT. AussieTheatre.com’s Carmen Ticket Giveaway will be drawn on Monday 7 November. Winners will be notified via phone/email.   Athenaeum Theatre, 188 Collins Street, Melbourne  Opening – Sat October 22 – 7.30 pm Thursday October 27 – 6.30 pmSunday November 6 – 2.30 matinéeFriday November 11 – 7.30 pmSaturday November 12 – 7.30 pm Bookings: www.ticketek.com.au   Ph:  1300 795 012
