Burlesque Is Back, Baby!

Burlesque is fun, playful and sexy, but what happens when it’s combined with George Lucas’s famous American sci-fi franchise, Star Wars?

After dozens of sold out shows in Sydney and a handful of Theatre shows around the country, Star Wars Burlesque is back, bigger and better in a brand new production, The Empire Strips Back: A Star Wars Burlesque Parody. The show, which takes the classic characters from the beloved Star Wars films and drops them into the world of Burlesque, will be touring Australia until Friday 20 June 2014.

The Empire Strips Back is designed to indulge audiences in a sci-fi fantasy of intergalactic proportions. Since Russall S. Beattie first introduced the show to Australia in 2011, it has been a major hit, exceeding expectations and delighting audiences of over 20,000 people across the country. Now the original Star Wars Burlesque has been rebuilt to make way for The Empire Strips Back, with brand new props, lighting, music and costumes reminiscent of those from Burlesque Dolls.

If you’re a fan of Burlesque, and of course Star Wars, this show is most definitely for you!

“Star Wars Burlesque is great because you take everything you loved as a child and combine that with things you love as an adult, ideally people wearing Stormtrooper masks and combining it with sexy ladies. It just kind of works – it’s a fun thing,” says Beattie.

Tour Schedule:
Perth, 30 -31 May
Albury, 19 June
Melbourne, 20 June

If you love Burlesque but not necessarily when it’s alongside R2D2 or Darth Vader, you may find one of the events below more appealing:

The Australian Burlesque Festival

Australian Burlesque is internationally renowned for its uniqueness and outrageously talented performers. Produced by Melbourne’s very own burlesque bombshells Dolores Daiquiri and Rosy Rabbit, this festival celebrates the best of the country’s burlesque artists with an exciting programme of showcases, workshops and industry awards. In 2014, the festival enters its fifth year and will be touring Australia between the 5th and 28th June.

Crystal Boudoir Cabaret Show

Described as Sydney’s best burlesque show, the Crystal Boudoir Cabaret Show was created to showcase the best of Australia’s contemporary dancers and entertainment. With a Parisian atmosphere, the Crystal Bar at GPO Sydney will take you back to 1920s Paris with dancers in their handmade sequinned costumes and perfectly choreographed moves.
