On Monday night, 10th March, the Who’s Who and Who’s New of Brisbane Theatre were at the Gardens Point Theatre celebrating the annual Matilda Awards.

The night was hosted by Dash Kruck and Emily Curtin as their characters Ivan & Juniper, from A Tribute of Sorts, which scooped the pool at last year’s Matilda’s. Scripted by Benjamin Schostakowski, this was a high-light of the evening. James Stewart, who played Henry in La Boite Theatre Company’s latest production of COSI, also presented as a special guest, with entertainment performed by the band Neon Wild.

The Matildas were created in 1987 to recognise the contribution of theatre practitioners to the industry in south-east Queensland.

The five main Gold Matildas are uncategorised, giving the judges the flexibility to make awards regardless of category. And the winners of the Gold Matilda Awards for 2013 are …

Barbara Lowing
for performances in The China Incident, Tequila Mockingbird, and Motherland

Jason Glenwright
for lighting Rumour Has It: Sixty Minutes Inside Adele, Out Damn Snot, Blood Brothers, Oklahoma!, Next to Normal, and Tequila Mockingbird
