After receiving international acclaim, Australian composer Brett Dean’s modern recreation of Shake speare’s Hamlet will finally make its Sydney Opera House debut next month.
Dean’s immensely complex and astoundingly score includes electronic music and cinema-like surround
effects and is accompanied by Matthew Jocelyn’s thrilling libretto.
Legendary Australian theatre director Neil Armfield’s invigorating production gives audiences a glimpse into the inner world of thought and emotion of the crazed son trying to avenge his father’s death.
British tenor Allan Clayton MBE will make his Sydney Opera House debut in the title role opposite home grown soprano Lorina Gore, reprising her Helpmann award-winning performance as Ophelia, with tour-de-force American baritone Rod Gilfry as Claudius and Australian mezzo soprano Catherine Carby making her role debut as Gertude.
Joined by an outstanding local cast and the Opera Australia Chorus, with the Opera Australia Orchestra under the guidance of contemporary opera specialist Tim Anderson, also making his Australian debut.
