Out of the Box – Children’s Festival

Out of the Box Festival – QPAC

Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is once again set to become a hub for creative little imaginations as the Out of the Box Festival, now in its twenty second-year, prepares to launch the 2014 event with two more festival days than previous years.

This year, the internationally recognised children’s festival will run into the school holidays from 25 June to 2 July with a program including the premiere of Carnival of Animals by internationally acclaimed Circa. A concert series will also feature some Australian household names in children’s entertainment: Justine Clarke, Jay Laga’aia, Sam Moran and one of our Queensland Culture Champions, and Katie Noonan. The festival will also focus on Asian culture through free outdoor entertainment and activities including Japanese Drumming and Bollywood Dance.

With the Festival hub at QPAC, activities and events will extend throughout the Cultural Precinct at South Bank, including events at the State Library of Queensland, Queensland Museum and the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA). South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt will be activated each day for children to participate in meaningful arts experiences.

Out of the Box will be an exciting program of free and ticketed events, including theatre performances, interactive workshops, and outdoor events,” QPAC’s Chief Executive John Kotzas shared. “Out of the Box is about children. By extending the Festival we’re trying to make sure as many children as possible are able to participate either with their school or with their families and carers.”

To learn about what’s on the program, purchase tickets or find out more general information, head to the comprehensive festival website www.outoftheboxfestival.com.au – there is even a fantastic festival tips section for those who are novices at the festival or indeed child wrangling.
