Blackrock opens next week

With a stellar cast working hard in rehearsals, Tantrum Theatre’s Blackrock promises to be an unforgettable and enigmatic production.

Written by Academy Award Nominee Nick Enright, (born in Maitland), Blackrock will provoke audiences to consider important issues of teenage binge drinking, volatile relationships and the angst and heartbreak of violent actions.  Based on the shocking events which took place in Newcastle over 20 years ago, the play will engage audiences with outstanding performances from emerging Tantrum artists as well as local professional actors.  Local musician and artist Zackari Watt will share the stage, performing live an original musical score created specially for this production.

Opening in one week on Thursday May 13, Blackrock is creating plenty of hype, being the first local production of the show since its premiere in 1996.  Newcastle audiences are embracing this bold and provocative representation of our town, in an enthusiastic and wholehearted way – tickets are selling fast and the two matinees of the season are now sold out, with many school groups coming to study the production as part of their curriculum.

Blackrock plays 13-22 May at the Playhouse, Civic Theatre Newcastle. Tickets are $30 ($26 concession and groups 8+), and available through Ticketek.

There will be 20 tickets priced at $20 for people aged 26 and under, available at the Playhouse box office one hour prior to each performance (except the 11am performances). Once the allocation has been sold, tickets will revert to the prices listed above.
