BILLY ELLIOT prematurely closes in Melbourne amidst COVID-19 warnings

Earlier tonight it was announced that Billy Elliot The Musical will be closing its doors at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. The show is now the second to officially close as a result of COVID-19 safety precautions (after Come From Away). The run was scheduled to April 19, but played its final show tonight, on Sunday March 15.

The producers released the following statement:

The producers of Billy Elliot the Musical sincerely regret to advise that as a result of the Government’s announcement that mass gatherings of more than 500 people will be banned from Monday 16th March, this evening’s performance of Billy Elliot the Musical at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre was its final.

The production was due to play until April 19th but due to these unprecedented developments the production had no other option. The health, safety and well-being of our staff, artists, audiences and our community will always be paramount. The producers thank the Billy Elliot Company and of course our audiences for helping make this such a special tour.

Ticket holders for all future performances should contact their place of purchase.
