Musical Theatre leading man and star of the upcoming Beautiful the Musical, Josh Piterman, will sing the Australian national anthem before game 1 of the NRL State of Origin in Brisbane this evening.
Josh, who will play Gerry Goffin in the upcoming production, spoke to AussieTheatre this morning about the opportunity:
“It’s such an honour and I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of a packed Suncorp stadium at something as momentous as State of Origin game 1. I’m such a massive sports nut so it’s definitely a dream come true.” said Josh. “I was told yesterday that the State of Origin is broadcasted live in 90 countries and is the most watched Australian sporting event of all time, behind the Olympics and the Soccer World Cup. So no pressure or anything!!”
The Australian premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical begins performances at a newly refurbished Sydney Lyric Theatre on 17 September 2017. For more details visit: Beautifulmusical.com.au
You can watch coverage of the State of Origin on Channel 9 tonight from 7:30pm AEST. The national anthem scheduled to be sung at 8:08pm AEST.
