Be Shaken and Stirred by Big Brother

1984 – Presented by Shake & Stir

Before Big Brother featured in a nauseating reality show and 1984 was a year of questionable fashion, both featured in a disturbing and dystopic novel by one of the greatest writers of all time.

Now George Orwell’s classic novel 1984 has been adapted to the stage by The Shake and Stir Theatre Co, who seem to have somewhat of a penchant for Orwellian tales.

The multi-award winning team are back at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from August 16 to September 1 in the Cremorne Theatre, pairing two of Queensland’s most respected actors Bryan Probets (Animal Farm, As You Like It, Pygmalion) and Hugh Parker (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Fractions, Julius Caesar, Betrayal), under the direction of Matilda Award winning Director Michael Futcher.

Shake & Stir promises a terrifically frightening theatrical event up against a dynamic digital backdrop. The show is sure to stun audiences as it contemplates the ultimate crime against humanity – the total destruction of truth, freedom and individuality in favour of surveillance, obedience and conformity.

The company’s 2011 production of Animal Farm has collected over 15 theatre awards including Best Independent Production and Best Direction proving that they know theatre and what’s more, they know how to treat Orwell.

1984 will play at the Cremorne Theatre, QPAC from 16 August to 1 September.
