One of the darlings of the Sydney Fringe Festival, Pearls Before Swine: An Evening with Orson Wellesis set to play new and strictly limited seasons in Sydney and Melbourne.
Starring Blake Erickson ([title of show], Spring Awakening) in his uncanny portrayal of icon Orson Welles, Pearls Before Swine has been described by Producer Neil Gooding as “an intimate piece of theatre that will be enjoyed by theatre audiences and movie buffs alike.”
“The moment I saw Pearls Before Swine starring Blake Erickson, I knew that it was a show that I wanted to produce – and to make sure that this show was seen by as many people as possible.” Gooding said.
It is 1947, and Orson Welles – famed star of film, theatre, and radio, is on the verge of defecting to Europe from America. Abandoned by the very elite that created him, he takes to the stage one last time to reveal the truth behind his meteoric rise to fame, and his spectacular fall from grace.
In its first showing at the inaugural Sydney Fringe Festival, Erickson was awarded the Sydney Fringe Festival Award for Best Performance for his take on Welles, and was nominated for the Sydney Festival Independent Artist Prize.
Two years now in the making, and after two successful runs in Sydney, Pearls Before Swine will play for two performances only on September 30 at Sydney’s New Theatre, and then head to Melbourne’s Chapel off Chapel in October.
