Avenue Q extends Sydney season

Arts Asia Pacific today announced that the Sydney season of the hit musical,Avenue Q will be extended until October 18 at the Theatre Royal.

The Australian production of the Tony Award-winning musical was to run until the end of September, but as ticket sales continue to build, due to strong word of mouth, the season will extend for several more weeks.

Avenue Q, starring Michala Banas and Mitchell Butel, and directed by Jonathan Biggins, opened in Sydney on August 12 to strong reviews and a wonderful audience response. The Australian production is mirroring the success of the Broadway and West End productions, and the premiere Australian season at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne.

Producer, Torben Brookman of Arts Asia Pacific said: “Sydney audiences have absolutely embraced Avenue Q. From music theatre fans to patrons who have never been to the theatre before, the audience reactions have been overwhelming. Unfortunately we cannot extend beyond October 18 as we move to Canberra, so I’d encourage anyone who is thinking about seeing the show to buy a ticket early – we expect the final weeks to sell out.

“We have deliberately kept ticket prices as affordable as possible with A Reserve seating starting at $64.90 up to $84.90 on Saturday evenings. As well as making the production more accessible, it has meant that patrons’ expectations have been consistently exceeded as these days it’s impossible to see a first class, multi Tony Award musical from the best seats in the house for under $100.”

The Sydney season of Avenue Q must close on October 18, with no further extensions possible – the production opens at the Canberra Theatre Centre on 24 October.
