Aussie Performers Lend A Helping Hand
This Monday 11 July, lend a helping hand in Sydney.
This Monday 11 July, lend a helping hand in Sydney. Australia’s theatre community will come together on Monday 11th July to raise money for a family in need. Performers from Mary Poppins and Jersey Boys, as well as performers fresh from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival are giving up their time for a night of song to help a family in need. Sidetrack Theatre, Marrickville will host fundraiser for the family of one-year-old, Zane Walker who was diagnosed with a rare heart disease in 2010. Zane suffers from Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Drainage (PMVT), where the blood vessels from his body to his heart return to the wrong places. After open heart surgery and the implementation of a stent, all options for his recovery have now been exhausted. His parents, Renee and Brad, have been left in an emotionally and financially desperate situation. This fundraising event is being established to lend a helping hand to the Walker family in this difficult time. “I decided to put on A Helping Hand because of Facebook”, says A Helping Hand‘s co-ordinator, Erin Kennedy, currently a cast member of Mary Poppins. “A friend from school was writing heart – breaking messages about her baby nephew going through open heart surgery and later, that his condition was terminal. She was asking for help; donations from anyone who could give assistance to the family, who had mounting medical costs. I didn’t have alot of cash, but I do have alot of friends willing to help make some.” So take time out this monday to see these gifted and generous performers including Australian leading ladies Debra Byrne and Margi De Ferranti, Ben Mingay (Jersey Boys), Drew Weston (Mary Poppins), Ben Giraud and Mark Hill (both from Mary Poppins) take to the stage. Other industry talents include Kate Maree Hoolihan, James Millar, Kurt Phelan, Flip Simmons and Ed Grey and direct from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival: Michael Griffiths (In Vogue: Songs by Madonna), Josie Lane (Josie in the Bathhouse) and Gillian Cosgriff (Waitressing and Other Things I do Well). “With a raffle also to be held on the night, A Helping Hand aims to be just that, a night of song and support for a family in need”, says Kennedy.
Tickets are $30 minimum donation at the door, cash only please as there are no ATM or card fascilities. There will also be a raffle and silent auction during the night with over $5000 worth of prizes to be won including a two day skydiving package, personal training sessions, photographic sessions from both Lionmillk and Blueprint studios and premium wine from Peackock Hill Winery. All proceeds go directly to the Walker family.
