Australian Musical ‘Muriel’s Wedding’ to Make International Premiere in West End

Global Creatures announced that Leicester’s Curve theatre will host the UK premiere of the highly acclaimed ‘Muriel’s Wedding The Musical,’ with performances scheduled from 10 April to 10 May 2025. This marks a significant milestone as the beloved Australian musical makes its debut on the international stage.

‘Muriel’s Wedding The Musical,’ which won multiple awards including five Helpmann Awards and seven Sydney Theatre Awards, celebrated its world premiere in a co-production with the Sydney Theatre Company in November 2017. The show, which has been hailed as a smash hit by critics and audiences alike, returned for an Australian tour in 2019.

Global Creatures, the Sydney-based production company behind the musical, is known for creating original theatrical works. Their portfolio includes critically acclaimed productions such as ‘Walking with Dinosaurs — The Arena Spectacular,’ ‘How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular,’ ‘Strictly Ballroom The Musical,’ and ‘King Kong.’

The UK premiere at Curve theatre represents a continuation of Global Creatures’ successful international expansions. Their production of ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ premiered outside Australia in Boston in 2018, later transferring to Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre in July 2019, where it won 10 Tony Awards® including Best Musical. ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ is now playing in multiple locations including Broadway, the West End, and on a North American tour.

‘Muriel’s Wedding The Musical’ tells the story of Muriel Heslop, a quirky and flawed character whose journey captures the hearts of audiences. With the UK premiere, British audiences will get the chance to experience the charm and humour of this Australian classic in the vibrant setting of Leicester’s Curve theatre.

This international premiere is a testament to the global appeal of ‘Muriel’s Wedding The Musical’ and the continued success of Global Creatures in bringing compelling and innovative theatrical productions to audiences worldwide.
