Members of the cast, production staff and media gathered at the Irish Times pub in Melbourne’s CBD for a morning Guinness (or a cup of Irish Breakfast Tea) to hear the announcement of 16 cast members who will breathe life and music into this incredible musical.

Anton Berezin, Andrew Broadbent, Ben Brown, Gerard Carroll, Colin Dean, Brent Hill, Stefanie Jones, Keegan Joyce, Amy Lehpamer, Lachlan Neate, Jane Patterson, Greg Stone, Susan-ann Walker and Paul Watson will make up the ensemble of singer/actor/dancer/musicians who tell the tender love story of a struggling Irish busker (Guy) and a piano-playing Czech immigrant (Girl).

Heading up the ensemble cast in the coveted roles of Guy and Girl are British actor Tom Pasons and Australian performer Madeleine Jones. Parsons has performed in Australia previously as Peter in the Arena Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar and Jones is a Sydney’s Actors Centre graduate (2009) who has appeared in many theatre productions for STC, ATYP and Sport for Jove.

UK director John Tiffany said, “I was blown away by the talents of the actors we met for the Australian production of ONCE and Tom and Madeleine as Guy and Girl are going to be magical together. I cannot wait to start rehearsals and experience this amazing company learning and playing these beautiful songs together and then sharing them and this story with a new audience.”

Based on the Irish film which became a surprise international hit in 2006, and won an Oscar for Best Song (‘Falling Slowly’), ONCE is an emotionally honest musical featuring a brilliant collection of songs about longing and heartbreak.

John Tiffany, together with Musical Supervisor Martin Lowe, will begin rehearsals in Melbourne on 14 August ahead of the opening night on 4 October.
