Producer Kate Macdonald has confirmed that over 70 performers will take to the stage at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, led by co-hosts Rob Mills and Joel Creasey in a one-night-only event on October 2 at 8pm.

Once a boutique fundraiser concert, now an important mark on the musical theatre calendar, Twisted Broadway is a gender-bending charity event which raises funds for the Victorian AIDS Council and Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Modelled on the success of New York’s Broadway Backwards, Twisted Broadway features some of Australia’s finest artists performing songs originally penned for the opposite gender.

“We’ve been blown away by the outpouring of support we’ve had for Twisted Broadway since announcing our 2017 concert”, said Producer Kate Macdonald this morning.

“There are two very important reasons we run this event, the first being the huge impact the funds have for our chosen charities – the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC) and Oz Showbiz Cares Equity Fights AIDS – and the second being the positive impact it has on the theatrical community.”

Performers from the casts of Aladdin, The Book Of Mormon, The BodyguardMAMMA MIA! and Kinky Boots will all be giving their time and talents to feature in the showcase, which will be held on the set of GFO’s The Bodyguard at the beautiful Regent Theatre on Collins St – the first time the concert has played at this mammoth venue.

“For a diverse range of theatrical professionals to come together for the greater good has an uplifting knock on effect for our industry, and our audiences get to see the absolute best of the best strut their stuff and help to promote the wonderful shows playing Australia wide”, Macdonald said.

Since its inception seven years ago, Twisted Broadway has raised over $110,000 for VAC and Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and with this knockout cast, including Adam-Jon Fiorentino, Bert LaBonte, Casey Donovan, Euan Doidge, Paulini Curuenavuli, Natalie O’Donnell, Paul Capsis and Rhonda Burchmore, tickets for the 2017 concert are sure to sell out quickly.

New HIV diagnoses are made every year in Australia and although we have come a long way through education and awareness of this chronic, manageable illness , it is an important and very real issue for thousands of Australians today. The support Twisted Broadway has enjoyed over the years is an example of the passion of both audiences and performers for such a significant and monumental cause.

“This event is a marvellous example of our community coming together through music to support – and celebrate – those of us in need”, Macdonald said.

Directed by Christopher Parker, musically directed by Trevor Jones with contributing choreographers including Yvette Lee, Michael Ralph and Amy Campbell, Max Trengove and Adrian Ricks, Twisted Broadway is produced by Kate Macdonald and Dan Benge.

Tickets are now on sale from Ticketmaster.
