Artistic expression continues to bloom at The Channel

Arts Centre Melbourne’s dedicated learning venue The Channel continues to be a prosperous wellspring for Australian artists with the launch of the public program PLAY.

State-of-the-art digital learning labs, a recording studio and flexible performance space offer the opportunity for a range of educational and participatory arts experiences for children and families, youth, emerging artists and lifelong learners.

Since 2015, The Channel has worked with arts organisations and established artists to deliver mentoring and skill building programs that champion the right to creative expression for all. Some past and current collaborators include Kram, Alice Ivy, Yve Blake, Geraldine Hickey, Cal Wilson and Kaiit.

With the launch of PLAY, The Channel is bringing together this broad range of creative learning experiences under one umbrella, with the view to broaden our reach with artists and the creatively curious across Victoria.

Nurturing, collaborative spaces are essential to sustain the future of the arts in Australia and The Channel team are committed to the next wave of creatives looking to grow, write new stories and share fresh voices and perspectives.

The Channel aims to give creative people a community, a language by which to communicate complex feelings and ideas, and the confidence to take risks and be themselves. It also contributes to the building of a healthy future for a dynamic, exciting, inclusive and diverse arts sector.

Arts Centre Melbourne has provided learning programs for over 20 years but the launch of The Channel in 2015 was a significant moment. PLAY builds on history and strives for long-lasting and impactful creative connections for all Victorians.

Rinkel:

The Channel’s PLAY program invites young people, emerging artists, families and children, lifelong learners, and community arts organisations to get involved in our hands-on creative workshops to hone their skills and build creative networks.

The programs are designed for new and established artists involved in music, theatre, magic, dance and comedy – to instil inspiration and driven on providing a space for freedom of expression.

The next range of workshops have just been announced along with an Open Day available at The Channel on 26 April.

The Open Day is dedicated to showing future prospective collaborators through The Channel facilities and resources, and will invite a selection of speakers to reflect on their experiences of working within the PLAY program. During this session, the Creative Learning Team will guide attendees through the newly established Expressions Of Interest process and invite new proposals for the 2024 PLAY Program.
