The producers of An Officer and a Gentleman today announced the full cast of their upcoming world premiere production just weeks ahead of the commencement of rehearsals.

The company, who will begin rehearsing the show on March 19 in Sydney under the direction of former MTC Artistic Director Simon Phillips, are working towards an opening at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre, The Star in May.

Tara Morice, best known for her role as Fran in Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film Strictly Ballroom will make her music theatre debut in An Officer and a Gentleman, joining the already announced principal cast: Ben Mingay, Amanda Harrison, Kate Kendall, Alex Rathgeber, Barthlomew John, Bert LaBonte, Josh PitermanZahra Newman and Josef Brown

Also featuring in the show will be Bernard Angel, Elise Brennan, Bianca Baykara, Kirby Burgess, Lena Cruz, Sam Devenport, Akina Edmonds, Zoy Frangos, Sheridan Harbridge, Peter Hardy, Brendan Irving, Tanya Mitford, Thern Reynolds, Simon Roborgh, Michael Whalley and Patrick Williams.

Based on the hugely successful Academy Award-winning film, this new production has been adapted for the stage by the original screen writer, Douglas Day Stewart and co-writer Sharleen Cooper Cohen, with music and lyrics by Ken Hirsch and Robin Lerner.

An Officer And A Gentleman will be produced by Sharleen Cooper Cohen and John Frost, and choreographed by Andrew Hallsworth.

The World Premiere of An Officer and a Gentleman will be held at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, The Star on 18 May, 2012.
