Adam ‘The Futurist’ Trent makes Australian debut as part of The Illusionists 2.0

At just 28 years old he is known around the world for his unique brand of magic, performing in at least twenty countries each year. This summer, Adam ‘The Futurist’ Trent will make his Australian debut as part of The Illusionists 2.0.

It was David Copperfield who originally spawned his yearning for the stage, but Adam Trent also finds inspiration in an eclectic bunch of pop icons. It’s no wonder then that he has been described as ‘Justin Timberlake meets David Copperfield’.

“One of the things that sets me apart is that I combine a lot of different art forms with my magic, so the audience is seeing magic that is infused with other things. It kind of makes it an overall entertainment experience,” said Trent.

Trent’s unique style is an edgy blend of song, dance, comedy and technology. It’s an innovative niche that appeals to all audiences, both young and old. In one of his most popular routines, high-tech projections are used to produce a cloning effect live onstage.

“We live in an age where people have short attention spans and that’s the most difficult thing for me. Ninety seconds seems a long time, whereas in the olden days it would be a ten-minute act.”

While books and Hollywood blockbusters have given magic a new surge of popularity, according to Trent today’s audiences are always looking for something more.

“You need to extend the act beyond just entertainment and into an experience. That’s one of the reasons I use so much technology in my show; it becomes something the audience can’t just watch on YouTube and say ‘I get it’.”

Trent is clearly in high demand, with a solo tour planned directly after his stint with The Illusionists 2.0, and two major television specials set to air later this year.

His Australian stage debut will be made alongside a spellbinding international cast, including Portugal’s Luis De Matos, James Moore of Britain, and Adelaide’s own Raymond Crowe.

“I have no idea what to expect from Australian audiences, but I think it’s going to be a great time. I’m also planning to stay a few days afterwards to travel and see some places,” said Trent.

The Illusionists 2.0 kicks off in Adelaide this December, followed by seasons in Sydney and Brisbane.
