Australian actor and playwright Don Reid passed away yesterday, leaving the arts community in shock.
It is understood that Reid, a founding member of the Ensemble Theatre (Australia’s longest, continuously running professional theatre company) passed away around 5pm on Tuesday 9 April after sustaining a fall.
Don, and his partner, actress Fiona Press were scheduled to meet with Marika Aubrey this afternoon for inclusion in her April ‘How We Do What We Do‘ feature series this month.
Having worked extensively in television (from Skippy to All Saints), film (from Phar Lap to Moulin Rouge) and in both theatre and radio, Reid’s incredibly varied career was an inspiration to Aubrey.
The AussieTheatre team are deeply saddened by this news and offer our condolences to Reid’s family and friends at this sad time.
A tribute to Don, written by Tim Stackpool, has been published on AussieTheatre here.

What sad news. I had the great joy of working with him last year. A true gentleman and a wonderful actor.
