A Chorus Line is bound for Sydney!

The Australian Cast of A Chorus Line, 2012

The Australian revival of A Chorus Line is heading to Sydney this July for a season at the Capitol Theatre.

After successful seasons in Adelaide and Melbourne, as well as a scheduled Singapore tour, this all-new Australian cast will be turn-turn-kick-turning its way into Sydney’s Capitol Theatre for 21 performances only from July 20, 2012.

Producer Tim Lawson is excited to bring this new production, directed by original Broadway cast member Baayork Lee to the Sydney stage.

“I am thrilled that Sydney audiences will be able to share the magic of A CHORUS LINE. With the popularity of shows such as X Factor, Australian Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, I knew the time was right for A CHORUS LINE to be presented.  People have a newly found understanding and insight into the dreams and challenges of aspiring performers”, he said.

The 30-strong cast is led by Josh Horner (Billy Elliot on Broadway, Tivoli, Dirty Dancing, Dancing With the Stars) who plays formidable Broadway director, Zach.

“This role of Zach really speaks to me. You see people giving their heart and soul and you are in control of their dreams.  I’ve been on both sides of that role so A CHORUS LINE mirrors perfectly my life as a dancer“, Horner said.

A Chorus Line’s Melbourne season, originally scheduled to close on March 4, has been extended one week due to demand.

The show took over $3 million in advance sales recouping all its costs before opening.

Producer Tim Lawson is certain that the Capitol Theatre season will capture the hearts of Sydneysiders, despite the brevity of the season.

“It has thrilled audiences in Adelaide and Melbourne, and I am sure Sydney audiences will be similarly enthralled”, he said. “The Australian production has caught the attention of international promoters as well, with bookings through Asia and Europe in place. The Sydney production, for that reason, is limited to 21 performances only.”

A Chorus Line tells the tale of 17 dancers auditioning for eight stage roles in the ensemble of a musical. In an empty theatre, on a bare stage, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. Their personal human stories are told through captivating song, riveting drama and stunning choreography.
