25 years on, Riverside Theatres are still going strong

For a quarter of a century, Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres have been providing millions of patrons with an arts culture in Sydney’s western region.

To commemorate the milestone, an invite only celebratory event will be held at the venue, hosted by Lord Mayor of Parramatta Concillor John Chedid on on Wednesday 27 February.

“This is a celebration of Parramatta and the region’s arts and culture industry, along with this beautiful venue, which has hosted many thousands of performances and events over the past 25 years,” said Chedid.

Guests for the evening will include theatre industry and government officials who have helped build the success of Riverside over the last 25 years.

A special performance of Mayor’s Nest will take place at the event, written especially for the celebration by award-winning playwright Caleb Lewis.

Based on the book by acclaimed screenwriter Tony Morphett, it is a satirical look at Parramatta local government, starring some of Australia’s favourite stage actors – Darren Gilshenan, John Howard, Glenn Hazeldine, Amber McMahon and Mark Pegler.

2013 will also see actors who performed in the first season at Riverside return to perform in various productions throughout the year. Helen Morse, John Howard and Annie Byron are among the performers who have had a 25 year connection with the venue.

An installation will be set up in the Riverside Foyers, showcasing 25 years productions, and a proposed redevelopment of the Theatre and surrounds.

The Wizard of Oz, presented by Packemin Productions is currently playing at Riverside Theatres.
