2017 Sydney Theatre Awards nominations announced

Nominations were announced today for the 2017 Sydney Theatre Awards, which will be presented at a gala ceremony on Monday 22 January 2018 at 6pm at the Everest Theatre, Seymour Centre.

51 productions were nominated across  35 categories with some notable standouts. The Sydney Theatre Company and Global Creatures new musical adaptatation of Muriel’s Wedding received a record breaking 12 nominations, including Best Musical and 3 of the 4 nominations for Best Female Supporting Role in a Musical. Other notable mentions include Cloud Nine and Only Heaven Knows with 9 nominations and Calamity Jane with 8.

The Sydney Theatre Awards are presented annually by a group of leading theatre critics including AussieTheatre alumni Ben Neutze and Cassie Tongue.

Matt Edwards

Matt is a past owner of AussieTheatre, working as digital director from 2011 to 2019. He is also a performer, most recently appeared in the Australian tour of Mamma Mia! and previously in the Australian/NZ tour of CATS and Enda Markey's acclaimed production of Blood Brothers. As well as performing Matt keeps himself busy in the digital side of the arts working with web design agency Emptyhead Digital
