Cats is an upcoming musical film based on the stage musical of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which in turn was based on the 1939 poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. The film is directed by Tom Hooper and will be his second musical film following 2012’s Les Misérables. The screenplay for this movie was written by Lee Hall and Hooper.
Filming took place from December 2018 to April 2019. It stars James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Sir Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, and introduces Francesca Hayward in her first feature-length film role.
The film had a whopping £230m GBP budget, which is $435,626,569.03 AUD at today’s exchange rate and is scheduled for release in Australia on December 26, 2019, by Universal Pictures.
