Job Description
The Highlights:
Join the innovative team at Bluey’s World, a world-first children’s experience in Northshore, Hamilton.
As a Technical Supervisor at Bluey’s World, you will play a pivotal role in our immersive experience by maintaining all technical functionality throughout the venue.
This role will oversee all on-site technical elements including show control systems, lighting, speaker systems, projectors, POS machines, internet, phones, TVs and cameras.
Strong problem-solving skills are essential, as you will address venue malfunctions, including issues with sound, lighting, network, and show systems.
Duties – Tech Supervisor
- Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- – Adhere to high Work Safety standards in line with WHS Legislation.
- – Ensure the preservation of public property and the natural environment.
- – Work with relevant skills, knowledge, training, and experience or under proper supervision.
- – Conduct safety checks for any tools, plant and access equipment before use.
- – Be aware of health and safety risks on-site and follow site rules and procedures.
- – Report any significant or ongoing risks promptly to the site manager or your supervisor.
- – Clean as you go, dispose of waste correctly, use tools correctly, and wear adequate PPE.
- – Identify and assist in completing any reports on-site for incidents, hazards, or near misses.
- – Collaborate and respond to feedback to eliminate identified hazards and maintain a safe work environment.
- – Be familiar with, and adhere to, the Emergency Management Plan.
- – Promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance among all site workers.
- Attendance and Communication:
- – Arrive promptly for shifts, sign in/out diligently, and ask for help when unsure about tasks.
- – Attend all safety briefings (toolbox talks) and training sessions as required.
- Coordination with Production Management team:
- – Collaborate with Production Management to ensure that technical plans are accurate and up to date.
- – Work closely with the Production Management to service all technical and rigging elements at the venue and on-site locations.
- – Maintain the setup and installation of technical equipment by workshops, ensuring seamless integration with the in-house system.
- – Any other tasks directed by the Production Management team or General Manager as may reasonably be expected.
- Tool Management and Site Neatness:
HVK will provide all necessary tools for completing tasks. Personal tools are not required. However, if you choose to bring your own, you are welcome to do so at your own risk.
- – Maintain cleanliness of welfare amenities.
- – Ensure the Workshop area is tidy and organised, and equipment is back in the right spot each day. Clean the working area as you complete each section.
- – Use tools correctly and return them after use to the store area.
- Team Supervision:
- – Assist in supervising and facilitating communication of Production Crew, ensuring the completion of tasks and objectives set by your line managers.
- – Contribute to creating daily to-do lists; ensuring the crew takes appropriate breaks and maintains productivity.
- – Assist with rostering and approving timesheets.
- Technical Supervision:
- – Open the venue each morning, ensuring all technical elements are operational and functioning correctly. Run tests as required. Take immediate action to rectify issues as required.
- – Secure the venue each night and ensuring all the technical elements are shut down properly, locked and protected for overnight security.
- – Ensure all staff are offsite each evening unless directed otherwise by the Site Manager.
- – Manage technical elements of functions and events.
- – Attend to technical issued that arise in operational and experience areas including Points of Sale (POS), internet, phones, TVs and cameras.
- – Install, move, and modify audio-visual and related equipment according to job specifications and technical requirements.
- – Maintain and repair various production equipment, including projection, LED screens, media servers, camera systems, theatrical lighting, PA and amplification systems, motor control, power distribution cables, and infrastructure.
- – Assist in securing the site nightly, including locking all containers, venue doors, and gates.
- Cable Management & Infrastructure:
- – Ensure all the cable runs are safely, neatly, and sufficiently hidden within the exhibition space.
- – Label all distros onsite and create and maintain up-to-date technical maps.
- – Pull power and data to installation locations as required, ensuring efficient and safe routing of cables.
- – Install digital signage and Wi-Fi equipment, following established protocols and specifications.
- – Perform periodic inspections of rigging and power equipment.
- System Integration and Testing:
- – Connect systems by patching in equipment racks and ensuring proper integration of technical components.
- – Conduct standardised test procedures to verify system functionality and performance.
- – Perform systems functionality testing to ensure seamless operation of all technical equipment.
- Organisation:
- – Assist with equipment inventory, ensuring all materials and equipment are properly labelled and manuals are organised in a labelled folder.
- – Contribute to creating a storage map for all materials and equipment for the season.
- – Assist in creating a comprehensive troubleshooting manual and maintenance guide for all equipment.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- – Troubleshoot and address venue or site related issues that arise.
- – Assist other departments with deliveries and other site-related tasks.
- – Coordinate with other departments to assist with problem-solving.
- – Regularly liaise with other supervisors and departments for additional tasks when not busy.
- – Prepare and submit daily technical reports and end-of-season reports.
- Representation and Professionalism:
- – Represent AKM, HVK, Bluey’s World, and all critical stakeholders, focusing on adhering to and executing the production schedule.
- – Adhere to appropriate dress codes for physical work during the build phase and wear neat, smart black clothing or supplied uniforms during the event phase as requested by your line manager.
- – Build / Dark Day / Maintenance / Repair:
- – Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and specifications, ensuring equipment is kept in optimal working condition.
- – Assist in planning for dark days and maintenance shifts as required.
- – Update and oversee the maintenance schedule, including coordinating with external contractors and managing deliveries.
- – Coordinate and assist with the installation and de-rigging of site infrastructure.
- – Oversee the packing and unpacking of containers and trucks.
- – Assist with site build activities directed by the site management team, including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying, painting, installation of site infrastructure, décor, furniture, general maintenance, unloading trucks, rigging of flown elements, plumbing infrastructure, basic carpentry, and assisting technical staff with lighting, sound, and AV equipment.
- General Responsibilities:
- – Represent AKM, HVK, Bluey’s World, and all critical stakeholders, focusing on adhering to and executing the production schedule.
- – Adhere to appropriate dress codes for physical work during the build/maintenance phase and wear neat, smart black clothing or supplied uniforms during the event phase.
- – Adhere to Social Media Policy and Code of Conduct.
- – Perform any additional tasks as directed by Site / Production Management that reasonably fall within the scope of the role.
Applicant Requirements
- Experience and Expertise:
- – Strong experience in event production, stage setup, or related fields.
- – Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, following instructions and collaborating with colleagues.
- – Advanced understanding and experience in technical equipment. (e.g. lighting consoles, sound mixers, network programming).
- – Valid license or certification for operating EWPs.
- – Strong knowledge of general networking, lighting, audio, and projection systems.
- – Basic understanding of rigging.
- – Familiarity with technical terminology commonly used in event production.
- – Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment effectively.
- – Understanding of safety protocols and procedures of technical installations.
- Familiarity with WHS Legislation:
- – Knowledge of Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation and site safety practices.
- – Valid General Construction Induction (White Card).
- Physical Stamina and Agility:
- – Capable of performing manual labour tasks for extended periods, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions.
- – Ability to work efficiently and safely in fast-paced environments, adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines.
- Reliability and Punctuality:
- – Dependable and punctual attendance, with a commitment to meeting project deadlines and schedules.
- – Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by project demands.
- Communication Skills:
- – Clear verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members and follow instructions.

- Attention to Detail:
- – Ability to follow instructions precisely and pay attention to detail when performing tasks such as equipment setup, staging, and teardown.
- Desirable:
- – Valid intermediate / advanced rigging licence and have experience with 2+ years in event and festival environment.
- – Proficiency in relevant software tools commonly used in event production, such as but not limited to; Qlab, ETC, Dante, and etc.
