Studio Manager


Lott Studio is a contemporary Melbourne jewellery label established by jeweller Kari Layton. For the last 8 years, Kari has designed slow-release sculptural jewellery collections, handmade in her Melbourne studio, using only local trade and closed cycle techniques. This slow-made, considered design ethos is a key value of the studio and is reflected in the team of passionate individuals who work with her and support her in her work. Her approach to designing involves meticulous attention to detail, combining sculptural aesthetic outcomes.

As our small studio grows, we are seeking a conscientious and inspired creative individual to join the Lott Studio team as a Studio Manager—someone with a wealth of creative perspectives and experience who brings out the best in themselves and others. This is a unique opportunity for someone to shape the studio’s future while making a meaningful impact on our projects and team. Our studio is a dynamic, humming creative space, and the role is situated in our city workshop, working alongside our jewellers. This position would suit someone who would love the opportunity to work in a highly creative environment.

As our Studio Manager, you embody a desire to engage, listen, and guide a team to perform at their best. You carry a knowledge base that can add value and improve workflow, and you are confident in implementing workflow improvements. You support a team through inclusive and intentional engagement while implementing and maintaining fundamental actions and systems that lead to the studio’s overall operational and commercial success.

The skills essential to our studio include expertise in production management and administration, coupled with a keen interest in and eye for quality control in sculptural forms. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive relationships with team members and suppliers.



  • You feel aligned with the studio aesthetic and either hold existing jewellery knowledge or have a desire to learn and immerse yourself in jewellery design.
  • You come with wisdom and experience, and you feel at ease putting together systems for efficiency and success. Identifying issues is one of your strengths. Implementing alternative solutions comes naturally to you.
  • Being organised and working to a schedule is one of your strengths.
  • You are comfortable working independently in your role while being immersed in a humming studio environment.

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the studio, including opening and closing procedures, scheduling, and managing staff.
  • Maintaining inventory levels of materials, tools, and finished pieces. Monitor stock levels, pricing, and check records of inventory.
  • Interacting with clients, addressing inquiries, and providing assistance with purchases. Handle customer orders or issues professionally and promptly.
  • Supervising studio staff schedules, including jewellers and other studio team members. Delegate tasks effectively and provide ongoing support and timeline oversight.
  • Ensuring that all pieces meet quality standards and specifications. Conduct inspections of finished pieces and provide feedback to jewellers as needed to maintain quality and consistency. Taking photos of completed work and documenting this in client files.
  • Coordinating production schedules, prioritising orders, and allocating resources efficiently to meet deadlines and production targets.
  • Handling administrative tasks such as answering emails, managing appointments scheduling, client collections,  invoicing,  invoice tracking, shipment of orders and maintaining records.
  • Utilising software tools for scheduling, inventory management, and customer relationship management.
  • Collaborating with the designer and jewellers on special projects.
  • Identifying opportunities for growth and expansion, such as new pieces and sales channels. Engage in strategic planning and initiatives to drive business growth and increase revenue.
