About Second Echo Ensemble
Second Echo Ensemble [SEE] creates and produces interdisciplinary art and live performance. Based in nipaluna/ Hobart, the company has toured around Australia and internationally, and is a leading creative force in the development of a narrative that speaks to the rich diversity of Tasmania.
With strong artistic purpose and vision, SEE continues to break the mould of art, creative practice and performance in Tasmania. We are committed to reimagining how art is made, who can make it and where it happens.
Our mission is to redefine expectations of possibility and to challenge assumptions we hold about ourselves and others.
Our purpose is to develop, create and present exceptional art that challenges assumptions, shakes up stereotypes and gives voice to untold stories that result in real social change.
We don’t make art about having a disability or not having a disability. We support diverse artists to make work about life, about its surroundings, its imaginings, its rhythms, its angers and its celebrations. We wield our art practice as a force to normalise diversity in our communities.
As Tasmania’s leading professional inclusive arts company, SEE plays a vital role in the Tasmanian arts ecosystem, ensuring that art is for everyone. We employ and deliver creative opportunities for those living with mental illness, chronic pain, disability, neuro-diversity, and long-term under-employment.
Our services include training, community workshops, mentoring, performances, exhibitions and advocacy. We mentor and employ disabled and marginalised people to work as professional artists. Our innovative programs address the barriers which prevent them from realising their ambitions and finding employment within the creative industries.
We passionately believe that everyone, everywhere, has the right to thrive, to be seen, to be heard and to be a part of our community.
Second Echo Ensemble is in a strong financial position, with a focus on sustaining diverse income streams. We currently hold multi-year investment from Arts Tasmania, Creative Australia, and the Department of Social Services, alongside funding to support our artists’ development through their NDIS plans. Other recent financial partners include City of Hobart, the Myer Foundation, Regional Arts Fund, Skills Tasmania, and Healthy Tasmania. Our financial strategy is centred on growth and stability, enabling us to continue fostering innovative artist and art form development programs. As we expand our impact, we are committed to securing new partnerships and funding opportunities to support our ambitious future projects.
