About the role:
We currently have two exceptional opportunities to join the Geelong Gallery Board. The Board is interested in diverse skills and is an equal opportunity Board. Your interest in the arts, and your capacity to commit time to the Board and to the Gallery are crucial. The Board meets eight times per annum, including one Strategic Planning workshop. Board Directors are expected to attend some events at the Gallery, including exhibition openings and key stakeholder events.
The Board and Management are supported by five sub-committees and it is expected that each Board member serves on two sub-committees each of which meets at least four times per annum.
Directors of the Board must be or must become Members of the Gallery and can serve only three terms each of three years duration. Directors of the Board must meet all requirements under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and be eligible to be a Director.

The role of the Board includes setting strategy as well as oversight of governance, risk and financial management.

- A broad understanding of and interest in the Arts sector;
- A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion;
- Collaborative and respectful approach; and
- Organisational strategy and leadership.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Previous Board and corporate governance experience (AICD membership and training would be well regarded);
- Government sector experience;
- Major Project Development experience;
- Philanthropy sector experience;
- Legal skills; and/or
- Accounting or Finance skills or experience.
About Geelong Gallery:
Geelong Gallery Ltd is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, and its’ principal purpose is to operate the public art gallery in Geelong.
The Gallery was established in 1896 and is one of Australia’s leading public art museums, and holds a magnificent collection of Australian and painting, printmaking, sculpture, decorative arts and design. The Gallery has an outstanding reputation for community engagement and for the presentation of scholarly and critically acclaimed exhibitions that celebrate historical and contemporary art, and it aims to provide an inclusive experience of art that enriches peoples’ lives. By providing access to a broad range of exhibitions, public programs, and educational activities, the Gallery contributes meaningfully to the cultural vibrancy of the Geelong region.
