Graphic Design & Gallery Assistance

King Street Gallery on William is looking for a Graphic Designer & Gallerist to join our Darlinghurst team.

King Street Gallery on William is one of Sydney’s longest-running commercial art galleries, in operation since its establishment on King St, Newtown in 1982.  We’re looking for a graphic designer & gallerist to join our team in Darlinghurst, to action graphic design related tasks and assist with our day-to-day operations. King Street Gallery on William represents a selection of leading contemporary artists, spanning multiple mediums and disciplines, of both national and international esteem.

Graphic Designer and Gallery Assistant

Hours of Work:

• 32 hours per week during gallery opening hours, Tuesday–Saturday 10am–6pm.
• Must be available approximately once a month for an additional two hours, for exhibition openings 6-8pm on Wednesdays.
• Must be available on Saturdays, between 10am and 6pm.

Core Responsibilities:

• Design print-ready material including catalogues, invites, magazine ads
• Colour-correct and edit photographs of artwork, installation shots, and gallery space
• Prepare content for social media in coordination with gallery social media manager
• Create visual web design for Mailchimp and WordPress
• Contribute to branding and marketing strategy for the Gallery

Ancillary Responsibilities:

• Assist gallery staff in maintaining the gallery database and inventory
• Assist gallery staff in managing artwork sales and client records as required
• Assist gallery staff in front-desk duties by phone, in-person and email as required

 Experience and Skills

• Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is required
• Proficiency in visual web design, especially Mailchimp and WordPress
• Knowledge of contemporary art and Australian art
• Strong organisation and attention to detail
• Communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Experience in client relations is a plus
• Proficiency in video editing is a plus
• Proficiency in database and/or inventory management systems is a plus
• Proficiency in HTML and CSS is a plus
