Are you a dynamic and driven arts leader looking for a new challenge? Ensemble Offspring is seeking a General Manager who will work closely with our CEO/Artistic Director to provide strategic, financial, and organisational leadership for this exciting and innovative contemporary music ensemble.

Founded in 1995, Ensemble Offspring has been at the forefront of new music in Australia for over 25 years, commissioning and performing new works by Australian and international composers. The ensemble is renowned for its boundary-pushing performances, which feature a range of instruments and technologies, and its commitment to developing the careers of emerging musicians.

The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO/Artistic Director and Board of Directors to shape the direction of the ensemble, drive growth and revenue, and ensure the smooth operation of its activities. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Management and governance of Ensemble Offspring Team
    • Meet on a regular basis with Board Chair and Treasurer, CEO/Artistic Director and attend all board meetings
    • Lead and implement annual strategic planning in collaboration with CEO/Artistic Director and the Board, tracking activity against KPI’s
    • Manage the ensemble’s finances, liaising with Board and bookkeepers (AFG) including preparation and delivery of sections of bi-monthly board papers & financials, processing invoices via Dext and ensuring insurance policies are current
    • Ensure appropriate risk management plans, governance and compliance requirements are implemented, at the direction of the board
    • Maintain a workplace culture that empowers and develops staff in the delivery of Ensemble Offspring’s objectives and appropriate Workplace Health and Safety standards for all activities and staff
  • Operations and development
    • Manage grant applications and acquittals with CEO/Artistic Director
    • Collaborate with CEO/Artistic Director for annual budget, negotiating bookings, fees and venues
    • Assist with acquisition of concert, festival and touring opportunities in collaboration with CEO/Artistic Director
    • Identify new revenue streams and philanthropic opportunities in collaboration with the Development Manager
    • Oversee administration of musician contracts and payments with AFG, successful marketing, communications and PR strategies
  • Professional Accountabilities
    • Manage own role and responsibilities in a varied and flexible work environment as well as the 3 day/week Operations Manager, Development Manager and Administrator/Librarian
    • Facilitate a positive work environment and culture for the company and advocate for the ensemble publicly, along with the CEO/Artistic Director
    • Pursue new skills and knowledge for personal and organisational development and participate in staff development and training activities as required
    • Contribute to and champion the development of organisation through leading planning and review processes, staff meetings and attending relevant meetings, performances and other events as required

The position is full-time, based in Sydney, and will require some flexibility to match work/touring schedules. A competitive salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Find out more information here.
