This is an identified First Peoples position as permitted by and arguable under Section 25,104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. An exciting opportunity in our Creative Life team is now available for an experienced First Nations Curator to develop exhibitions and programs for our growing suit of gallery venues in Cairns.
Creative Life has established relationships with a wide variety of artists and organisations in the community and cultural sectors, with whom we partner in the conception, development and delivery of exhibitions, projects and events.
This role will focus on one of the priorities for growth in our program: building our capacity, and the capacity of practitioners to present First Nations arts and culture to a broad audience.
Primary Objectives: – To provide overall supervision, coordination and management of the Creative Life First Nations – – Visual Arts Program, maintaining the highest production values and audience development potentials.– To collaborate with the Creative Life Curator, Creative Director, and Programming Team and provide expert advice in the production and presentation of a diverse, multi-arts program.– To drive the consultation and engagement protocols with respect to first nations communities and artists as they relate to Creative Life’s program in Visual and Performing Arts.
Our Ideal Candidate:– Tertiary qualifications in the Arts and/or extensive relevant arts industry experience– Proven programming, curation and project management experience– Demonstrated engagement with First Nations artistic and cultural practice and communities– Successful experience in producing and managing diverse arts and events presentations, particularly in the Visual Arts sector – Proven ability to write clear and effective reports, submissions, proposals, grant applications and promotional materials and communicate effectively– Highly developed staff management, and organisational systems planning and implementation skills
