We are seeking an experienced Director of Programming to join our dedicated Queensland Theatre team and work with the Artistic Director in the delivery of Queensland Theatre’s artistic program

This role is suited to someone who is highly motivated, is able to manage the requirements of a diverse operational environment and who enjoys being involved in theatre making and the arts.

Role snapshot

Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Artistic Director, the Director of Programming plays a crucial role for Queensland Theatre, with responsibility for the delivery of the Company’s artistic program.  The role involves identifying opportunities for creative collaborations and co-productions, identifying talent and artistic product and has a strong focus on delivering both commercial and artistic outcomes for Queensland Theatre.

Who we are looking for – selection criteria

To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:-

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in arts management, or a related field or significant relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to manage, motivate and develop a team.
  • Proven strategic agility.
  • Proven track record in programming and producing theatre productions.
  • Strong understanding of the contemporary theatre landscape and emerging trends.
  • Provide excellent artistic judgment and ability to identify and develop talent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Organised and good project management skills.
  • Strong drive and work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.

Desired:

  • Experience working in a professional theatre company in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the local theatre scene and community.
  • A keen interest in national and international theatre trends.
  • A strong network of contacts within the arts industry.

  • Positive attitude, self-directed with an ability to collaborate in a busy environment to achieve results.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player as well as independently.
  • Resourcefulness to find required information.

The is a full-time position.  From time to time, given the nature of working for a theatre company, the position and production schedules, some additional hours of work including at performances/opening nights and in evenings, is required to fulfil the requirements of the role.
