Joondalup Festival is the northern region’s largest arts and cultural event, presented by the City of Joondalup. The event’s primary objective is to challenge and inspire the community through participation in creativity and the arts. Joondalup Festival 2025 will run as a three-week program from 15 March to 5 April.

The Communications and Community Arts Officer will work under the direction of the Team Leader Promotions and Communications and play a vital role in promoting and enhancing the local arts scene through effective communication strategies and community engagement initiatives.

This position requires an energetic and passionate advocate for the arts, capable of fostering collaboration among artists, organizations, and the community.

Title: Communications and Community Arts Officer

Hours: 0.7 FTE, with a proposed swing of 3-day and 4-day alternate work weeks

Term: 6-month fixed term, October 2024 – March 2025

Key Accountabilities:

  • Social Media
    • Plan and prepare organic social media content for Facebook and Instagram (including copywriting, and sourcing/editing images and videos)
    • Prepare content for paid social media content to support the City’s Cultural Services programs
  • Website:
    • Draft and post content for the City of Joondalup website, including events, blog posts and webpage updates, using an active and jargon-free web writing style.
  • eNewsletters:
    • Prepare content for the City’s monthly Arts in Focus eNewsletters using Campaign Monitor.
  • General Copywriting:
    • Support with drafting engaging blurbs for upcoming events, including Joondalup Festival events, the Valentine’s Concert, the Invitation Art Prize, Community Art Exhibition and more, for use on Ticketing platforms, physical programs, presentations and other channels.
    • Support content creation for paid partners, including drafting social media posts, eDM content, written articles, scripts and more.
    • Support with drafting and editing Media Releases.
  • Community Research:
    • Undergo demographic analysis, social listening and research on the Joondalup community to find niches, build contacts, and formulate targeted communication methods.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Cultivate relationships with cultural organizations, local community and arts groups, and community members to promote and secure participation in Joondalup Festival’s key community engagement program for Joondalup Festival 2025.
  • Event Coordination:
    • Organize and support community arts events and workshops as required.

About You:

The ideal candidate for this role should have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Formal training or qualification in Communications, Community Development, or related field.
  • Proven experience in community arts, communications, or a related area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
