Our mission is to inspire, educate, and bring people together through world-class art exhibitions, workshops, live events, and community gatherings. About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Business Manager to lead the operational activities of our gallery space and oversee the logistics of our external events. Reporting directly to the YAVA Board, the Business Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the gallery, managing staff and volunteers, and working closely with the Artist Liaison & Development Officer to ensure successful engagement and representation of our artists and members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the YAVA Board to develop and manage organisational priorities, including program and financial management, staff coordination, and project planning.
  • Coordinate and oversee multiple activities within the YAVA Gallery and Arts Hub, as well as external events.
  • Supervise the planning and execution of exhibitions, working closely with the Curatorial Panel, and managing exhibition staff and volunteers.
  • Represent YAVA by attending exhibition openings and other significant gallery events as appropriate.
  • Liaise with volunteer staff and committees to ensure the gallery is adequately resourced and that volunteers are properly trained.
  • Support YAVA artists and members by collaborating with the Artist Liaison & Development Officer.
  • Supervise the Administration and Marketing Coordinator, and oversee the strategic messaging for exhibitions and external activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies for audience and community engagement, aligning them with YAVA’s overarching goals.
  • Work with Board members and volunteers on grant writing, review, and assessment.

 

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Proven experience in business management; experience in the arts sector is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and activities simultaneously.
  • Experience in staff management and coordination, with the ability to set and monitor tasks and workloads.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills, with a strong collaborative approach.
  • High level of computer literacy, with the ability to develop and use relevant operating and management systems.
  • A strong community focus, aligned with the vision of Yarra Valley Arts.
