Whoopi Goldberg is set to return to the stage, taking on the iconic role of Miss Hannigan in a new production of ‘Annie’ at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden.
The beloved musical will run from December 4 to January 5, with Goldberg joining the cast on December 11. Before arriving in New York, the production will have a pre-Broadway run at the Chicago Theatre from November 12 to December 1, though Goldberg will not be part of the Chicago performances.
This revival of ‘Annie’ is an Equity production of the recent non-Equity national tour. Directed by Jenn Thompson, the creative team includes Patricia Wilcox for choreography, Wilson Chin for set design, Alejo Vietti for costumes, Philip Rosenberg for lighting, Ken Travis for sound, Ashley Rae Callahan for hair and wigs, and Dan DeLange for orchestrations.
The Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Harold Gray’s comic strip features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and a book by Thomas Meehan.
Full casting details for the production will be announced at a later date.
