Watch the National Theatres BARBER SHOP CHRONICLES

In this week’s streaming, 2017’s Barber Shop Chronicles, the Nigeria-born, U.K.-based playwright Inua Ellams looks at the interactions of African men in six barber shops—one in London, the others in Africa—in a piece that incorporates human, music and dance. Barber Shop Chronicles is Inua Ellams’ smash-hit play about the places where banter can be barbed, and the truth always is telling. Directed by Olivier award-winning director Bijan Sheibani, this heart-warming, hilarious and insightful new play leaps from a barber shop in Peckham to Johannesburg, Harare, Kampala, Lagos and Accra over the course of a single day.

Barber Shop Chronicles, a co-production with Fuel and Leeds Playhouse, is streaming for free from 4am Friday 15 May Sydney/Melbourne EST. Available until 4am Friday 21 May 2020 Sydney/Melbourne EST.

It is subtitled. The running time is 1 hour 45 minutes with no interval. Suitable for ages 12+. This never-before-seen archive recording was filmed live on stage at London’s National Theatre.

THIS VIDEO WAS STREAMED DURING THE COVID-19 ISOLATION AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
