Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LOVE NEVER DIES shared during the COVID-19 lockdown

The next release from Andrew Lloyd Webber was his 2010 musical Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera.

Although chronologically and thematically a sequel, Andrew Lloyd Webber does not think viewers need to have seen Phantom to understand Love Never Dies, as it is more a ‘second story’ with the same characters roughly 10 years after the original show was set. The show takes its inspiration from Frederick Forsyth’s The Phantom of Manhattan, itself a sequel to the original Gaston Leroux novel.

In Love Never Dies, Christine and Raoul have moved to the United States with their son Gustave. She receives a mysterious message offering her a contract to perform at Phantasma, a new Coney Island attraction, without the knowledge that it is indeed the Phantom behind it all.

The show opened in London’s West End in 2010, and an Australian season soon followed. Melbourne’s Regent Theatre homed the show from 2011 to 2012, where this recording was shot. The show was directed by Simon Phillips, and the cast included Ben Lewis as the Phantom, Anna O’Byrne as Christine, and Simon Gleeson as Raoul.

THIS VIDEO WAS STREAMED DURING THE COVID-19 ISOLATION AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
