The Phantom of the Opera to Embark on New North American Tour in 2025

New York, NY – After its record-breaking 35-year run on Broadway ended in 2023, The Phantom of the Opera is set to return to American audiences with a North American tour in 2025. This production, overseen by producers Cameron Mackintosh and the Really Useful Group, will showcase the London staging of the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which was updated and reopened in 2021 to critical acclaim.

Directed by Seth Sklar-Heyn, adapting the original vision of Harold Prince with choreography by Gillian Lynne, recreated by Chrissie Cartwright, the tour aims to bring a fresh yet faithful rendition of Phantom to cities across North America. The production retains Maria Björnson’s original set designs, enhanced with modern touches by set designer Matt Kinley and associate costume designer Jill Parker. Lighting is crafted by Andrew Bridge, with associate designer Warren Letton, and Mick Potter oversees the sound design. Kristen Blodgette continues as musical supervisor, while Cartwright recreates Lynne’s iconic choreography.

Lloyd Webber expressed his excitement for the tour, reflecting on the legacy and immersive experience of Phantom: “The Phantom made it very clear that it would not be long before his legend would, once again, be told in America. While Hal, Gillie, and Maria are, sadly, no longer with us, they live on in the show we all created together.” He added that the tour will bring the same heart-stopping moments that captivated Broadway, including the famous chandelier sequence.

Mackintosh echoed this sentiment, explaining that the production’s success in London inspired him to bring this updated version to the U.S. “When I unveiled this new production in London after the pandemic, our exciting new team, inspired by their predecessors’ glorious work, updated certain aspects of the production that resulted in a dazzlingly fresh version of the much-loved original,” he stated. “In just a year’s time, when we raise our even more sensational chandelier, you can once again thrill to Andrew’s soaring music of the night and be swept away by a revitalized Phantom in all its glory!”

Fans can look forward to classic songs like “The Music of the Night” and “All I Ask of You,” with lyrics by Charles Hart and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, who co-wrote the book with Lloyd Webber. The orchestrations remain a collaborative effort between David Cullen and Lloyd Webber.

The North American tour marks the first time U.S. audiences will experience the 2021 London staging, following its celebrated West End run at His Majesty’s Theatre. Casting and additional tour locations are expected to be announced soon, promising a grand reintroduction of The Phantom of the Opera to the stage.
